Skills
With over 12 years of experience in mainstream education and the past 3 years dedicated to working within a SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) school, I bring a wealth of knowledge, adaptability, and a deep commitment to inclusive, student-centred learning.
In mainstream settings, I developed strong classroom management skills, delivered engaging, differentiated lessons across a broad curriculum, and supported diverse learners to achieve academic and personal success. I consistently fostered positive relationships with students, parents, and staff, contributing to a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
My transition to working in a SEND school has allowed me to further hone my skills in delivering personalised, sensory-rich, and communication-focused learning. I am highly experienced in working with students with autism, PMLD, and those using AAC devices, as well as students with complex physical and communication needs. My teaching is grounded in patience, creativity, and high expectations for every learner’s potential. I use a variety of approaches, including symbol-supported communication, British Sign Language (BSL), and interactive technology to promote engagement and achievement.
I am passionate about creating inclusive environments where all students feel seen, valued, and empowered to progress at their own pace. My practice is rooted in positive behaviour support, emotional literacy, and preparation for adulthood.
About
I am an enthusiastic and dedicated educator with extensive experience supporting diverse student needs, including PMLD and SEN learners. Currently working as a Teaching Assistant at Kings Weston School in Bristol, I have honed my skills in creating inclusive and engaging learning environments. My previous role as a Trainer at Leeds City College allowed me to effectively support students with profound and multiple learning disabilities, utilizing sensory learning techniques and individualized communication strategies.
With a background as a Primary School Teacher in India and expertise in psychological counselling, I bring a unique perspective to education, fostering not only academic growth but also emotional and social development. My qualifications, including an MA in Childhood Studies with a focus on developmental disorders (Autism and ADHD) from the University of Leeds, further strengthen my ability to cater to diverse learning needs.
I am passionate about making a positive impact on students' lives, equipping them with essential skills for their future. I am now seeking an opportunity to leverage my skills and experiences in a dynamic educational setting that values inclusive education and offers opportunities for professional growth.
In my role as a Trainer at Leeds City College, working with PMLD students, I gained extensive experience in managing and reviewing Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs). I collaborated closely with multidisciplinary teams, including teachers, therapists, and parents, to ensure that each student's EHCP was tailored to their individual needs. My responsibilities included assessing students' progress against EHCP targets, contributing to annual review meetings, and ensuring that all educational, health, and social care provisions were effectively implemented.
I am adept at writing detailed reports, setting realistic and measurable outcomes, and maintaining accurate records to support EHCP reviews. My approach is always student-centered, focusing on enhancing communication, independence, and overall well-being. This experience has equipped me with the skills needed to coordinate EHCP processes efficiently and advocate for the best possible outcomes for students with special educational needs.
