About
With over 20 years of experience in the UK Secondary and Further Education Sector, I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to your institution's mission of providing outstanding education to students.
Throughout my career, I have held various roles, including Academic Manager, ESOL/EAL and Spanish Teacher, NOCN Employability qualification, and Childcare Diploma Teacher. I possess a Master's Degree in Education-ELT, a DTLLS/PGCE, a TESOL Diploma, a TEFL Certificate at International House, a Certificate in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language and I have completed a Certificate in Life Coaching and Hypnotherapy at the Manchester College of Coaching and Hypnotherapy.
In 2022, I published my book titled "Seeking Home" on Amazon, which discusses my life as an immigrant, with a portion of the publishing revenues donated to OIM (International Organisation for Migration).
In my opinion having a non-native English language teacher who speaks more than one language and teaches English or Spanish as a second language to students can be very beneficial for the students in several ways:
Understanding Cultural Differences: A non-native teacher understands the challenges students face when learning a second language because they've experienced it themselves. They can relate to the cultural and linguistic backgrounds of their students, making it easier to bridge any cultural gaps and create a comfortable learning environment.
Role Model for Language Learning: Seeing a non-native language teacher who has become proficient in a second language can be inspiring for students. It shows them that with dedication and hard work, they too can achieve fluency and accuracy, regardless of their native language.
Increased Empathy and Understanding: Non-native second language teachers can empathize with the struggles their students face when learning a second language because they've been through it themselves. This empathy can create a supportive learning environment where students feel understood and encouraged to keep improving.
My proficiency extends to understanding and implementing prevailing legislative requirements, as well as equality and diversity codes of practice within the academic sector.
I am adept at record-keeping, promoting student inclusion, and maintaining awareness of different awarding bodies such as Edexcel, Pearson, City & Guilds, ABLS, ESB, NOCN, British Council among others, as well as government bodies like UKBA, along with their new regulations and standards; I used to be an OISC Level 1 Immigration advisor for the Latino Community in London. Furthermore, I am fluent in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.
Throughout my career, I have acquired extensive knowledge of curricula, programs, and educational plans pertaining to schools and the further education sector. I possess a comprehensive understanding of educational regulations, policies, and standards established by awarding bodies and government entities.
I am equipped with the necessary training and skills to implement educational programs that align with sector standards. I am also capable of assisting in curriculum development, attending meetings, and ensuring the maintenance of a safe and healthy learning environment. In addition to my educational expertise, I possess strong interpersonal skills and exhibit "Multiplier" leadership qualities, drawing from my previous experience as an Army officer with the rank of Lieutenant.
I excel at nurturing individual strengths and fostering teamwork for the betterment of the educational institution. I am highly motivated, creative, and consistently bring forth innovative ideas in any position I undertake. My approach is characterized by thoroughness, discretion, friendliness, and professionalism.
In my current role as an ESOL Teacher and Employability Mentor-Coach at Work&ReloK8 Ltd, I have successfully delivered a variety of employability training courses, both face-to-face and virtually, to ensure that learners acquire the practical skills needed to enter employment or further education. My experience in designing and implementing tailored learning plans, utilising technology to enhance learning experiences, and fostering a supportive classroom environment has resulted in positive outcomes for my students.
I am confident that my passion for student achievement, strong interpersonal skills, and track record of delivering high-quality teaching will enable me to make a significant contribution to this institution.
