Blackburn College has a long-standing reputation spanning 125 years of providing education, training and employable skills to benefit the whole community and economy throughout Pennine Lancashire and beyond.
With over 14,000 students enrolled on over 850 courses, they are one of the largest and most successful Further and Higher Education Colleges in the country. Their 2017 Ofsted reported in particular highlighted their success in their Apprenticeships and A-Level results. As an employer, their commitment to supporting the continuous professional development of their Higher Education staff has been recognised with a Higher Education Academy Access Partner accreditation.
We are proud to have been working in conjunction with Blackburn College offering them a competitive recruitment solution since 2013. Their recruitment requirements are hugely diverse and varied across all levels of their teaching and support staff. And as such a large establishment, their recruitment function was becoming increasingly expensive. By working with the College to understand their ongoing needs, we are able to offer them one simple fee which encompasses the best strategic approaches to target the most appropriate candidates.
Enviably, the majority of their roles always enjoy a good response rate due to their prominent location and reputation, but increasingly, they were finding more specialist Further Education vacancies challenging to fill. Through a combination of identifying the best specialist job boards and conducting effective candidate searches, we have been able to deliver a high success rate in securing the best candidates.

A representative in Blackburn College’s HR Team says:
‘It has been a pleasure to work with Sharron and the team. They are always available with quick responses and turnaround times and offer such a cost-effective solution. It is also incredibly helpful that they are the first port of call for candidates and are able to assist them with their applications, saving us valuable time.
Their ability to really understand our requirements and give sound advice to meet our needs through a combination of traditional advertising routes and their extensive network of contacts has been a real asset to our team.’

Are you promoting your College benefits?
Benefits, benefits, benefits!!! Don’t hide them, shout about them!
The recent levelling up premium payment scheme announcement is very welcome within FE. However, this doesn’t apply to all subjects and compared to industry, college salaries remain below market rate.
A recent study by Aviva showed that almost one in five (18%) of UK workers feel that there isn’t enough information available to them about their employer’s staff benefits packages.
